Is Your Pet Safe At The Groomer's?
Posted by: jn on June 17, 2009 at 12:46PM MT
I don't wish to portray pet groomers in a bad light here.  Professional groomers are schooled and trained and most are qualified to provide quality service and care for your pets.  But, hazards do exist.  This article is worthy reading on the potential hazards at the groomer's and how owners can recognize post-grooming problems they may otherwise ignore.

They missed one. After taking my dog to a local groomer, she came home smelling like a cigarette butt. Nicely groomed, but VERY stinky.

Are you sure it was smoke? Some of those doggy shampoos and perfumes are awful. Whoever invented doggy perfume should have to wear it.

It was cigarette smoke. The owner was puffing away like a chimney when I dropped her off and when I picked her up. Needless to say we never went back there.

I am so glad my dogs are not the type of breed that need to be taken to groomers...

I just hose them down in the backyard. But I agree about dog shampoos - if they smell bad to us, think how dogs must hate it. Dogs would probably prefer something along the line of Rotting Fish Carcass.

Cidaca - lol...so do I. The dogs love to get hosed down in the back yard. I use Ivory Soap on mine and it works great - no awful odor or dried out skin from it. One of my dogs loves to roll in any dead or rotting stuff he finds - gross!
