My wife and I are currently putting up with a little attitude from our 6-year-old when it comes time to stop playing the XBox 360 and get ready to go to school, etc.

Perhaps we can take comfort that his performance doesn't match this one:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Let the Countdown Begin......

First let me say that this is my first blog entry with the Billings Gazette. My name is Kasey and I hope to be an active member in the My Billings Gazette community. Check out my profile to get to know me better.

Of course we are here for games right? Kudos to Kyle for his blog post last night regarding the midnight release for Batman Arkham Asylum. A true gamer will make a midnight release party for a upcoming title and take it a step furthur by winning a costume contest. I am going to have to match him on some sort of level and with some big titles coming up this fall, I will have my opportunities.  I have not yet picked up my copy of this surprising title, but the disc will spin in my PS3 here soon.

As I mentioned earlier, some big titles are hitting the shelves this fall. Recentely news leaked of Gran Turismo 5 getting a Q4 release date, http://ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1017326p1.html.

The title though that I am most excited for is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I believe this title will be a contender for Game of the Year awards come December and if you have not seen much from Naughty Dog's sequel, check out the latest trailer below from the GC 2009 conference.

Uncharted: Drakes fortune was a title with the PS3 that was under the radar as one of the best titles for the system. Myself included, did not know much about the game but heard great things about it. So recently I purchased the game at the greatest hits price of 29.99 and could not put the controller down. Aside from the great visuals, Uncharted offered a great "cinematic" type experience that does not come along often. You know, where you are actually interested in the storyline. It was like Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones. To learn more about the original title, check out the full video review below from IGN.

If you have yet to play this title, I would highly recommend giving it a shot. With the sequel hitting stores on October 13, you have plenty of time to get to know Nathan Drake and how climbing walls and killing pirates can be so much fun.

Let the countdown begin.......

Midnight release of “Batman” at Gamestop
Posted by: krickhoff at 6:32PM MT on August 25, 2009

I have been asking myself, "Am I a geek or just frugal?"

When I pre-ordered "Batman: Arkham Asylum," the saleswoman told me there will be a costume contest at the midnight release party. Upset with myself that I wanted to know more, I asked," Who goes to those things?" She told me NCAA had four attendees. Madden had 21.  I made my decision. I was going to win the costume contest for a $25 gift card.

Over the weekend I estimated the number of attendees and the percentage of costume participants. Like the late-hour lines at Carmike, some kid will dress up like The Joker.  To have an edge on the competition, my wife agreed to dress like "Sexy" Joker. The cost of a costume and paint against the gift card was well calculated before any expenders were made.

No more than 10 people showed up to pick up the game that night.  Yes, we did win the contest... because she was the only one dressed up.

I wouldn't say I'm a geek for dressing my wife like The Joker. I'm upsettingly frugal.

PS3 drops to $299 and Redbox video games
Posted by: krickhoff at 12:25PM MT on August 18, 2009

PS3's slim version was officially announced in Germany. Sony is also dropping the price to $299. Details on USB ports and storage are unknown at first release.

Update from High Water: "Touting the same features and functionality of the current console, the Slim is true to its name, coming in at 33% smaller and 36% lighter. It's also greener, using 34% less power. But while its chassis has shrunk, its trunk space has grown with a new 120 GB hard drive." - games.yahoo.com/pluggedin

RedBox is also throwing $2 video game rentals in some markets. This would be worth it for party games. Otherwise pay $6 at Hastings for a week long rental.

Posted by: High Water at 2:41PM MT on August 6, 2009

The delayed Batman game goes live with a demo on August 7.  It come down from the PS Netowrk as I finish up the final in-game Ghostbusters achievements. (By the way, I finished Wii BG.)  Now knowing that Batman is so close, Sports Resort will have to wait.

Here is a link to several videos on the official site: http://www.batmanarkhamasylum.com/media

Here is the info about the demo from the official Web site:

The Batman: Arkham Asylum™ demo opens as the DARK KNIGHT and COMMISSIONER GORDON return The Joker back into confinement at ARKHAM ASYLUM. But things soon fall apart as THE JOKER gains the upper hand and springs a trap, setting Arkham Asylum’s occupants upon Batman. The demo offers gamers a taste of the fierce FreeFlow™ combat system, the cunning stealth of the Invisible Predator™ mechanic, and the feeling of becoming the WORLD’S GREATEST DETECTIVE as they navigate Arkham Asylum’s imposing Intensive Treatment facility. Players can unlock character bios, as well as get a sneak peak at some of the infamous foes that BATMAN will encounter within the cavernous and macabre confines of Arkham Asylum.
